About UPAU - United – working together much can be achieved. In 1938, Thomas & Rosetta Agst took into care seven small children from three families who needed help. A passionate Christian man, an accomplished organiser and local politician, he soon inspired many people with the vision to provide solid family based Christian care for protestant children in need of help. This powerful vision, mixed with a fervent desire to promote Protestant religion drove our growth for the next twenty five years. At the time of Thomas Agst retirement from UPA he had established 12 Sunday schools, 12 Protestant Alliance lodges, 95 UPA branches, 12 District Councils, 13 children’s’ homes, 92 cottages and flats for the aged, 2 homes for 22 aged people , 3 opportunity shops, a printery as well as crucial assistance for the Queensland, Tasmania and Victoria Associations. As was common in the early days, there was deep feeling and bitterness between many Protestant and Catholic people. As society moved on and progressed that division diminished. Today we draw from our Protestant heritage sound Christian values which guide our work. Throughout UPA, whether as a volunteer, staff member, resident or client people from all walks of life and all religious persuasions are welcome. A - Association Our Association is made up of 11 Districts which have a healthy degree of autonomy, yet are bound together under the one mission and company structure. A foundational principle used since the very beginning of our work was that the money raised in the town would stay in the town. Local governance, management and administration are a core strength of UPA’s work. Working co-operatively UPA has built a strong growing association of like minded people providing a network of care services throughout NSW. |
